How To Enable Backorders In Magento 2

Steps to Enable Backorders in Magento 2
1. Enable Backorders for All Products
To enable backorders globally:
Log in to your Magento Admin Panel.
Navigate to Stores > Settings > Configuration.
Under Catalog, select Inventory.
Expand the Product Stock Options section.

Find Backorders and choose one of the following options:
- No Backorders – Default setting (backorders disabled).
- Allow Qty Below 0 – Allows purchases when stock is negative.
- Allow Qty Below 0 and Notify Customer – Allows purchases and displays a notification about backorders.
Click Save Config and clear the cache.
2. Enable Backorders for Specific Products
If you want to enable backorders for certain products only:
Navigate to Catalog > Products.
Select the product you want to modify.

Scroll down to the Advanced Inventory section.

Set Manage Stock to Yes.

In Backorders, choose one of the options available.
Click Save to apply the changes.
